Many different problems are caused by dust blowing freely across land surfaces. Small, dry surface mineral dust
and soil particles are easily moved by winds at speeds even less then 10 mph. Tubulence from passing cars and trucks
can also create tiny airborne particle movement. Removal of vegetiveve cover where new construction is underway
allows the surface soil bonding to deteriorate resulting in dust contaimination around around nearby homes. And, blinding
dust clods moving across highways have caused serious accidents. All this leads to the need for controlling dust, regardless
of it's source. DC-30 can help control wind initiated erosivity, as well as other microlimatological factors.
DC-30 is a liquid copolymer for use in controlling fine, easily movable surface particles. It's a compination
of proven polymers having the ablity to provide a high degree of cohesion when applied. DC-30 is dilutable in water to various
concentrations depending on the specific need for stabiliztion. When applied, provides effective agglomeration of small
PM-10 sized surface dust as well as loarger particles of mine tailings. DC-30 makes an efficient and economical method
for stablizing light erodable surfaces.
Being a liquid DC-30 maybe applied by water truck, hydromulcher/seeder, liquid fertilizer spreader or back pack sprayer.
It's applied in different amounts and concentrations, depending on the project requirements. For nuicance dust the surface
is treated with lighter applications. In areas where traffic may be active, greater amounts and deeper penetration is
recommended. Application is best made during periods when temperatures are above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The higher
the temperature the faster suring takes place. DC-30 has effective surface life of 1 1/2 - 2 years. Ap[lied surface
breakdown takes place ofver a period of time and by sunlight. DC-30 is ecological safe and provides lasting control
when applied at recommended rates.
While DC-30 is primarily used for Dust Control. Some areas may have active traffic. In such conditions stabilization
of the layers most likely to be disturbed below the surface if required. This if accomplished by roughing up the soil
to a depth of 4 to 6 inches. DC-30 is then applied over the disturbed soul, after which the soil is compacted and smoothed.
A final heavy spray is applied over the surface and allowed to dry. DG-30, when applied in this manner forms a three
dimensial matrix. Depending on the type of traffic, which has many variables, a second heavy surface application may
be needed. If not initially then later, depending on any possible surface crecking caused by heavy trucks.
Penetration of diluted DC-30 is desirable. Depending on the type of soil, sometimes this may be done instead of
ripping and compacting before final application. Deeper penetration is bes accomplished with higher dilution rates.
Depending on dry surface particles resistance to moisture, a surfactant may also be added to increase penatration.
Where larger particles are present, such as sand, DC-30 should be used at a higher fiscosity. Such action
is to provide a broader surface bond between the coarser particles. This is accomplished by adding J-3000 to the diluted
DC-30. Such special compination will decrease penetration into the soil, so is used as a final surface application.
DC-30, being a liquid copolymer, is best applied during temperatures abouve freezing. Since the dilution is
made with water, and proper curing is by evaporation of moisture. The higher the temperature, the faster copolymer bonding
takes place.
